How to Boost Your Immune System Before And After Covid

Share the Love!

I‍n the digital era, the risk of contracting a virus has never been higher. To make matters worse, your immune system also takes a massive hit when you’re under pressure. The same stress response that reduces your performance in exams and interviews can also leave you more susceptible to catching a bug from another person or even from within your own body. COVIDs are stressful because they disrupt our daily routine. They force you to adapt to new social situations and adjust to different demands on your time and energy. Your immune system is constantly adapting to manage the stressors of everyday life and the peak levels of stress hormones released by COVID provide an excellent opportunity for you to take care of yourself now so that you’ll be better equipped for whatever challenges come your way this winter season. Let’s talk about ways to boost your immune system to fight off COVID and stressors.

Go for a walk and breathe in some fresh air

Vigorous exercise releases endorphins, the “feel-good” neurotransmitters that improve your mood and reduce stress. Not only that, but researchers have found that walking has significantly reduced the risk of upper respiratory infections. The immune system relies on white blood cells to fight off invading pathogens and heal wounds. These cells are produced in your bone marrow, which is affected by reduced blood flow during exercise. Exercise is also known to promote the release of different hormones, including a substance called interleukin, which helps to regulate the immune system.

Get more sleep

Sleep is vital for regulating hormone levels and managing stress. When you’re sleep-deprived, your body experiences a state of chronic stress because it can’t keep up with the demanding routine. As a result, the levels of cortisol in your blood are elevated, which has a negative impact on your immune system. That’s why experts recommend 7-9 hours of sleep every night. Make sure you have a consistent sleep schedule, and try not to look at your phone or computer before bed. Keep your room dark, quiet, and cool for optimal benefits.

Eat a hearty, healthy breakfast

You might be rushing to get to class, but don’t skip breakfast. Eating a healthy meal in the morning provides your body with the energy and nutrients it needs to regulate your metabolism and boost your immune system. It also helps regulate blood sugar levels and keeps your energy levels consistent throughout the day.

Don’t forget to breathe deeply and practice mindfulness

Deep breathing has been shown to boost the immune system, and it’s something you can do any time, anywhere. You can even take five minutes out of your day and do it while you’re walking to class. Research has shown that breathing exercises can significantly reduce stress. Practicing mindfulness, on the other hand, has been proven to reduce cortisol levels in the blood and promote healthy immune function. These activities are great for managing the stress of covids and preventing the immune system from becoming overworked.

Supplement with vitamins and minerals

The nutrients your body needs to maintain a healthy immune system are often overlooked. It’s important to remember that vitamins and minerals aren’t just for staying healthy during the summer months. Your immune system relies on zinc to regulate its response to pathogens, while vitamin C helps you to fight off infections. Similarly, iron, magnesium, and potassium are all essential for optimal immune function. These are all readily available in a multivitamin, but if you’re not getting enough of any of these nutrients in your diet, you might want to consider a more targeted supplement.
